Witch Hunt translation audit
Every published finding was checked against the Japanese and its surrounding context. The categories collect recurring problems while preserving the limits of each claim.
Witch Hunt · Original PC fan patch
The original fan translation for the Japanese PC releases, before the later commercial revision. Our comparison uses Question Arcs v4.4 and Answer Arcs v4.1, not the newer “Witch Hunt” language pack for Umineko Project. Witch Hunt project.
Umineko Project · PS3 adaptation
A separate revision of the original Witch Hunt translation, adapted to the PS3 script, voice acting, and presentation. The team describes restoring selected PC lines where PS3 changes affected the story; it is not an unchanged PC script. Translation notes · PC restorations.
MangaGamer · Revised Witch Hunt translation
Witch Hunt’s revised translation for MangaGamer’s official PC release, a different branch from Umineko Project’s revision. The comparison currently shown here is its adaptation for Umineko Project’s PS3-format scripts, not a verified, untouched retail extraction. Translator’s account · UP language-pack credits.

Audit scope and source witnesses
The audit covers story prose across Episodes 1–8, including the Tea Parties. Support scripts, graphics, UI, and runtime behavior are excluded.
Original Witch Hunt is checked against the original-PC Japanese recovered with the historical patches. MangaGamer and Umineko Project are judged separately against the maintained PS3-derived Japanese. This is not a pristine retail PS3 extraction; the MangaGamer witness is the accepted backport described above.
Yellow annotations identify Material added from original PC script. They have no defect category and never contribute to the error totals.
